The full sign set applies to buildings with 3 or more apartments. One and two family homes register with HPD only when the owner does not live there.
In the entrance hall, on the wall of the entrance story. The rule is HMC § 27-2104(a). The sign shows your HPD registration number, and registration must be renewed every year by September 1.

HPD inspectors can issue a violation for each missing notice. Most sign violations are Class A. The key to heating system notice is Class C, which must be corrected within 24 hours.
HPD does not approve or certify sign makers. Our signs follow the wording and format set out in the Housing Maintenance Code, HPD rules and FDNY rules, and each one lists the code section it covers.
Since February 2, 2026, HPD allows a digital display for some notices, including the smoke and CO detector, garbage collection, bedbug and interruption of services notices. If you go digital for one, you must use it for all of them.
Natural gas detectors and their notices are due by January 1, 2027 for buildings with gas piping. HPD has said this date may be extended.
Only if at least one apartment in your building is rent stabilized. It is required under Local Law 86 of 2025 and must be posted in English and Spanish in a common area.
