Who needs it: every NYC multiple dwelling, meaning any building with 3 or more apartments, rented or owned.
One frame at or near the mailboxes
Every HPD inspector who visits your building signs a small card called the Certificate of Inspection Visits, with the date and the reason for the visit. New York State’s Multiple Dwelling Law Section 329 sets it up, HPD issues the card free, and HPD says the owner must keep it in a frame that holds a 6 x 9 in. card, 48 to 62 in. above the floor, at or near the mailboxes.
An empty spot or a damaged frame is easy to miss until an inspector writes it up. HPD issued 3,433 violations for the inspection frame in 2025, second only to the gas leak notice. Our frame fits the card, keeps it flat and lets inspectors sign it without tools. It sits well next to the registration number sign and the Housing Information Guide notice.
No. HPD issues the card free of charge. Our frame is sized to hold it.
48 to 62 in. above the floor, which is about 4 ft. to 5 ft. 2 in.
The owner fills in the owner section at the top if it is blank. Only HPD staff sign the visit lines, with the date and purpose of each visit.
Ask HPD for a duplicate, which it issues free. Keep the frame on the wall in the meantime.
No. Inspectors sign the card by hand, and it is not on HPD list of notices allowed on digital signs.
