Who needs it: every building with a main service disconnect, usually in the meter or electrical room.
One for each service disconnect
The 2025 NYC Electrical Code, Section 230.70(B), says each service disconnect must be permanently marked as a service disconnect, and legally required labels must stay visible. Most supers call it the main line or main switch. In a fire or flood it is the switch firefighters and electricians use to cut power to the building.
If the service sits above street level, Section 230.70(D) also calls for signs at every building entrance and at the fire alarm panel showing where the main electric service room is. Our sign is a simple, permanent way to mark the switch. Pair it with an Electrical Meter Room Sign on the door and an In Case of Fire Use No Water sign.
