HPD Sign Packages Explained: What Is Included
Buying signs one at a time is how buildings end up with gaps. A sign package bundles everything a building type usually needs, so you order once and you're done. Here's what a good set should include, depending on your building.
The quick answer
In short: A starter set for any 3+ unit building covers the core 8: registration sign, super sign, inspection frame, smoke and CO notice, gas leak notice, fire safety notice, housing guide and floor numbers. Most also need the two boiler key notices. Larger buildings add garbage, stair and other signs based on how they're built.
Starter set: 3 family houses
Covers every sign in our 3 family house guide: the core 8, with three floor number signs. Add the boiler key notice pair (lobby and boiler room door), and the garbage notice in most cases. No smoking signs, close the door signs and the FDNY building information sheet apply to every 3+ unit building too.

What's usually not in a package
A few items depend on your building's exact details, so they're added on: fire safety notices for each apartment door (one per unit), signs with custom info like your super's name, and notices only some buildings need, like the heat sensor notice. Always check the quantities.
Read the listing carefully
Some sites call a single sign a "pack." A real package lists every sign and how many of each. If you're comparing sellers, our red flags guide shows what to check, and our cost guide shows what a full set usually runs.
What this looks like in practice
Say a manager takes over a 5 story walk up with 16 apartments, a boiler room and two rent stabilized units. The order: the core 8 with five floor signs, two boiler key notices, a garbage notice, a rent stabilized notice in English and Spanish, five close the door signs and 16 apartment door fire notices. One order, one delivery, one afternoon of mounting.
